|
|
Just got an email from Highland Park offering me the chance to own my buy my own cask of Highland Park.
They plan to fill a limited quantity of 12 Year Old single malt (at its vatted strength of 58% ABV) into Firkins and Quarter Casks for a fixed final period of maturation and this is what they are offering for sale.
The details from the Highland Park site are:
• Choose from a Firkin (40 litre) or Quarter Cask (125 litre)
• Each cask will be filled with our award-winning 12 Year Old single malt whisky at its vatted strength of 58% ABV, for a fixed final period of maturation.
• Depending on out-turn, a Firkin will yield a minimum of 50 bottles while a Quarter Cask will yield a minimum of 140 bottles.
• You will be able to personalise the labels (with one name only) which appear on your bottles.
• Your whisky will be bottled and shipped to your home address.
• The total UK price will be £5,250 for a Firkin and £15,500 for a Quarter Cask, including delivery to one UK address.
• For orders delivered to the other 26 countries we are able to ship whisky to (check our shipping list here) the price will vary due to local sales taxes and duties.
• The price only covers the bottled contents of your personal cask - not the cask itself.
• A 20% non-refundable deposit will be required to secure your cask.
Another detail I found on the HP site which will be of significant interest if you are purchasing a cask is that all Firkins and Quarter Casks will be sherry seasoned American oak. They are not able to offer the option of choosing different types of wood at this stage.
To round up:
£5,250 for a 40 litre Firkin which will give you a minimum 50 bottles of 12 year old plus sherry finished Highland Park.
£15,500 for a 125 litre Quarter Cask which will give you a minimum 140 bottles of 12 year old plus sherry finished Highland Park. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |

Doing the math this is pretty expensive when you narrow it down to price per bottle. I guess you are paying quite a bit for the uniqueness of the bottling, the label and postage.
50 bottles @ £5250 a cask is £105 per bottle
140 bottles @ £15500 a cask is £110 per bottle
Perhaps of interest for a wedding, special event, group or a corporate/business bottling but too much HP 12 for an individual like myself. |
