|
|
Diageo has now revealed the full details (all except the prices) of their Diageo Special Releases 2017, there are a few usual suspects which whisky connoisseurs have come to expect in the annual release such as the popular Lagavulin 12 year old, an unpeated Caol Ila, this year it is an 18 year old expression.
In total the 2017 outturn comprises of 10 whiskies, 8 single malt whiskies, 1 single grain and for only the 4th time in the 16 year history of the Special Release series there is a No Age Statement blended malt although for the first time it is a blended malt which contains whisky from all 28 of Diageo's operational distilleries which they have rather appropriately named Collectivum XXVIII.
Some more details here on the 10 Diageo Special Releases 2017:

| The Collectivum XXVIII could be interesting, as you say William given the stock Diageo have to choose from they should be able to put together a top class blended malt. Hopefully it doesn't have a crazy price. |

| No doubt I will have a bottle of the Lagavulin 12 and if the Collectivum blended malt gets good reviews and is sensibly priced I give it a go. |

Look at last year's prices. Add 15%.
Anything new, just assume you can't afford it. _________________ "Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whisky is barely enough." |

| I think I saw a RRP of 90 for Lagavulin 12. The one other price released was for the Port Ellen 37yo which was some mind boggling number. |

The Convalmore is £450 more than the last one.
Since the Port Ellen 3rd release Diageo have been trying to convince us that PE stocks were dwindling fast , its all a big fat con. All the releases have been between 3000-9000 bottles , not including the 12000 US version on the 2nd release. They are still on 1979 vintage, do yourselves a favour and buy a nice indy Caol Ila. _________________ Pour me a glass please. |

| The Collectivum XXVIII should be a money maker for them as they haven't disclosed how many bottles will be available probably leaving it open for them to bottle more. I would hope it is a good whisky at this price, it is the one which I had my eye on but will certainly wait for reviews now considering the price and who knows how much it will be when it/if it arrives here. |

| Some of the prices are eye watering but no doubt I will have a bottle or two of the Lagavulin 12, I did fancy the Collectivum XXVIII but like Samson I will wait for the reviews given the price. |

I did hear whispers that Diageo bought back lots of stock of PE from independent bottlers _________________ Talisker 18 - the rest are just details |

| Has anyone tried the Lagavulin 12yo yet? I'm tempted by that, but even it's not an insignificant purchase. I read Ben's Whisky Blog on it, which was very positive. |
