Ardbeg has today announced the launch of its first new addition to its core range of single malt Scotch whiskies in over a decade.

Ardbeg An Oa (46.6% ABV) is a no age statement bottling, which has been produced using whiskies that were originally matured in Pedro Ximénes, virgin oak and ex-bourbon barrels, before being married together in a specially created French oak vat.....

Top Malt Sounds great. Wish there was a CS version though.

Interestingly priced at just above the ten ( generally in uk that is )..Aged stock issues?

Mind you, all that can be brushed aside if you read the link!

Cheers for posting Latic..

Had some wobbly experiences with PX matured Ardbeg in the past (the long, long past!), but saying that, I'm looking for a peated whisky as we move towards Autumn. Virgin oak and French oak both work really well with Ardbeg, regardless of age.

One I'll be getting - better to get it now too while it's got the better of the stocks in it.

"Aged stock issues?" - hasn't that been the case for the last 10 years? Laughing

Its about time we had another core range Ardbeg, it does sound interesting, hopefully a good one as I am a big fan of this distillery. I would love to see them resurrect the Ardbeg 17 next or add a another whisky to the range around 17 years old.

It does seem to be the trend these days to bring in a NAS whisky and price it above the existing entry level age statement whisky, look at the likes of Talisker for example. As long it is a good one I am happy there will be another Ardbeg expression and if it follows the trend I mention we should see it on offer for a good bit less than the RRP.

Always room for an affordable to drink Ardbeg and it could be interesting with the PX and Virgin cask influence.

Was fortunate enough to be in Islay last week and asked staff members what they thought of the new expression. Consensus is that if you like the Uigedail you will like this one, apparently slightly sweeter than the Oogy but not as much so as the Dark Cove.

Did not seem to be a huge amount of excitement surrounding the launch, was there when the press were packed into the distillery - read into that what you will...

Cheers Rage. Have to say I'm looking forward to it, just wish it was CS. Any prospect as a limited release I wonder?

One can hope! Also, if you liked the Dark Cove then now is the time to stock up, Ardbeg only have about 40 bottles left in storage and not producing more, price will start rising!

Received a bottle yesterday. In my opinion, it is a spectacular dram. It is rather un-Ardbeg if you will, the peat is evident but more mellow than in the Oogy or the Corryvreckan. Starts with a sweet hit and then the peat comes through. The finish is long, creamy and spicy with the peat lingering nicely on the tongue.

This is a dangerous whisky - one could keep drinking and drinking such is the smoothness. And that is precisely what I did last night Top Malt

I tasted the new Ardbeg An Oa, in fact it has been my daily dram for the past week, a very welcome addition to the Ardbeg core range. You can read my review here:
