New to the liquid gold stuff. Got 3 friends coming tomorrow to mine. Need to resolve a difficult issue that is threatening to rip apart a long friendship and the buys club. We have all been friends since secondary school. The boys are partial to a good dram, but I know nothing and have even less money!! but would like to set down a couple of bottles to help ease the convo.
So,spotted a Tamnavulin on offer at ASDA for £22; a couple of Ben Brackens at LIDL around the same price and the ubiquitous Becham Club Haig amongst other things.
So what would Malt masters recommend for a newbie around £20 for a pleasant evening to be had???

Lidls Ben Bracken single malts are decent whiskies for your money, if you think your friends will like a smoky Islay malt whisky (most whisky drinkers do) then Lidls Ben Bracken Islay malt is excellent for its price. It was produced in a single distillery on Islay, there are only 8 distilleries there, I suspect it may possibly originate from Laphroaig,

If you have a Morrisons supermarket near you they have the Highland Park 12 year old on offer for £25 and Asda have Laphroaig 10 and Old Pulteney 12 for £25 each all good whiskies.

Just had a look at the Asda website. There are a few others at £25, Laphroaig 10yo and Aberlour 10yo. Both are good but the Laphroaig may be a bit risky, especially for you if you are new to whisky.

The Old Pulteney suggested by Mark is a cracking dram and at £25 in Asda too. It's absolutely the one yo go for. It's a safe bet for all drinkers and a quality whisky. It's bar far better yo spend the extra on this one in my opinion.

Stay away from the Haig.....it really won't be appreciated. Awful whisky. It's a young grain whisky and about as far away from a complex single malt as you can get.

I'd go for the £25 bottles myself but for a very easy drinking whisky I did enjoy the tamnavulin when I tried it at Xmas , we all different but at the time of drinking it I said to myself"" it's like jw black without the smoke. Also at aldi for £19.99 glen marnoch 12 speyside goes down quite easy ,
