I understand that Canadian whiskey can have just under 10% of anything added to it (non-whisky flavouring). This includes sherry, rum and other spirits. I can't help you with which brands are better, although I've had some 'adulterated' Canadian whisky and I like it. I believe if anything is added then it needs to age for another two years which is why the flavour may be more harmonious rather than it might otherwise be.
