Norlan Announces Kickstarter Campaign to Fund Its New Whisky Glass-
Here's their concept-
By combining modern digital technologies and advanced double-walled glassblowing handcraft, Norlan has created a hybrid-designed glass that not only brings together the best qualities of the archetypal tumbler and snifter, but improves upon the essential scent delivery. Through scientific study and bio mimicry, Norlan has developed a patent pending feature that dramatically increases the rate of oxidization within the glass. This feature, a series of specially positioned protrusions, or "fins,"? inside the glass, serves to agitate the liquid, creating ocean-like waveforms that release the ethanol vapors more quickly and deliver the expressive and desirable flavor notes to the drinker.

It's a strange looking beast!
And at $48 for 2 glasses (£30ish) they are going to be only for those with a fair bit of disposable income. Like the 1 backer they've had so far that has bought the $1500 reward!
I'll stick with the Glencairn :D |

My glass of choice is the Glencairn. However, the argument about a $24.00 glass being too expensive is inconsistent with folks willing to pay 100's of British pounds for the exceptional bottle so why not pay more for an exceptional glass (if it really is). The other angle to consider is whether a "better" glass is able to deliver a better experience even for a less expensive dram. That's where real cost saving would occur with more satisfaction with staple drams and hence less desire to keep upping the monetary stakes for whisky satisfaction.

| I like to hold my whisky tasting glass and not warm the whisky in it at the same time, I use a coppita style glass with a long stem or sometimes a glencairn glass with its stumpy base to hold. To me this glass is absolutely no good as you would have to cup it in your hand, and I doubt the double-wall would stop the heat transfer from hand to the whisky in the glass. I also doubt it would be any better than a coppita or glencairn at concentrating the flavours of your whisky when nosing. |

You're probably right but paying hundreds of pounds for a whisky puts you in the fair amount of disposable income category any way in my eyes!
My jury is out on this. It looks more like gimmick than science to me. I'll wait for someone on here to prove otherwise. |

| I'm happy with my Glencairn glass especially as it only cost me £5 from The Whisky Exchange. |

I saw this funny looking glass in a review video on youtube recently and wondered what it was. Can't remember what video it was now unfortunately. _________________ The Drawing Room // Crimson Glow Photography |

| I'm absolute sucker for glasses. I enjoy the art in them. I bought a couple of LSA Whisky Glasses that were £40 for 2 and the water jug that goes with it. |

| Would be interesting to have someone compare whisky drunk the Norlan glass & a Glencairn glass to see if there is a difference between the 2 glasses. Let's see if the claims that Norlan make are true. |

As a designer I really like the look of these glasses - in fact I bought a pack from the crowdfunding campaign last year
They are beautiful and in my opinion do add something to the 'experience'. Wether or not they make the whisky taste any different/better is surely a subjective matter. I seem to recall watching a video about these with Jim McEwan where he seemed to rate them... hang on here's a link - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gq-_EpQUN-c
I found the video where they showed you how they were made facinating...
Only negative I found was I wanted it to be heavier, they are very light and fairly delicate (as glasswear goes), I managed to crack the outer skin of mine when I caught it with a bottle |
