Raymond was renound for managing to find good whisky and selling it at a good price, he now has started sourcing rum (and I suspect whisky will follow).

For sale through whisky broker and details on whisky broker facebook page.

Glad to see him back at it.

Who is this? Never heard of him. Had a look on WhisyBroker and if there are more bottles coming similar to what is already on there then they'll be getting a fat share of my cash through rum purchases; single cask, full proof 12yo Diamond for £45......

I take is WhiskyBroker are a trusted and well used site by others?

This is a cask of Raymond's choosing with Martin bottling. As far as I can work out he is starting to select casks again with Martin getting all the work.

Edit Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed Turns out Martin picked this one, Raymond's selections have still to come Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed

Whisky broker are great! But I would say quality of whisky has dropped slightly. Raymond Armstrong part owned Bladnoch and sold casks that he selected, his son Martin has taken over the business and relocated.

I usually get them to hold my bottles until I have for six as postage is a bit expensive.

He has a rum from a closed distillery lined up but was honest enough to say that it is just OK taste wise but he picked it for interest. Apart from that I guess it will be a matter of if it sells he will do more.

Do you know which distillery it is by any chance? He's got a Diamond listed at the moment, which isn't closed, but looks good, well priced too.

I've been selecting a cask of Demerera Jamaican rum and I'm thinking of opting for a Dec 1999 Uitvlugt, pronounced I think iflut. This barrel was apparently one of the last produced before the distillery closed in 2000. A lost rum distillery probably doesn't have the same marketing applomb as a lost malt distillery especially if it was intended that the rum should be blended (and possibly should have been) rather than sold as I propose as a single cask bottling, but I mention the fact in case any of you know even less than I.
The barrel is No. 18 of rotation 00V87. It contains just 72 litres of alcohol and the strength when gauged a couple of months ago was 60.1% It should yield about 170 bottles.
The barrel also includes the letters MPM(PM) I'm told that the rum was distilled in quite a famous Port Morant wooden potstill. I'll try tasting it a few more times and unless I change my mind it will be distilled in early Dec when it becomes 17 yo

Interesting.

Of course Demerara and Jamaica are 2 different regions and rums. Uitvlugt is Demerara and the taste will.depend on if it was column or pot distilled, some of the Demerara stills.mkved around at different times, pot still is the one you want from Uitvlugt as the column still is a bit blend fodder really.

If he's getting a Port Morant then game on. I'll have one of those!

Closed distillery bottlings of rum, especially from Caroni (Trinidad) or certain Demerara rums can fetch a good price, even more so if they are single casks, well aged and from certain bottlers - I've seen stuff go for hundreds of £ on the secondary market.

Just in case anyone is interested the 12yo Diamond rum it's from the Enmore wooden coffey still, cask marque MDXC which is a modified Enmore. I'm not sure if this is a heavy versiom column or not, and it looks to be sherry cask aged, but I've ordered a bottle so we'll see had to just take the hit on delivery charge Smile

.....lets hope they get my order seeing as it's now Christmas....I really want a bottle of this..if all goes well it'll be getting a new year review on my blog (shameless plug).

Got one of each.

They're dong;

Belize Travellers 11yo
Uitvlugt (Modified Port Morant still - wooden pot still) 17yo
WIRD Blackrock 16yo. Anyone who's interested (and a geek), this is actually cask marque BRS which is a Rockley Still. Very special stuff indeed.

It's the one that's most whisky like.

Bajan rum is usually quite dry, caramel and toffee forward, with oaky vanillas. Rockley Still is quite different. It's Islay like, medicinal, tarry and smoky. Don't see many of these about and most would struggle to pick it out as a rum if some sneaky person were to slip it into a blind whisky tasting Wink should be a cracker.

My order is being sent out on Monday so in the next month or so I should have some reviews up.

Whilst I'm pretty certain that this could be a rockley still, it's all smoke and mirrors as I'm not sure of any verified rockley distillations from 2000 rather there have been rockley 'style' releases from this time. The only known last verified distillation is 1986 that I am aware of. Still exciting stuff.

There are indeed rumours that the original Rockley Still was never fired at Blackrock. I don't think anyone actually knows 100%. That aside, a single cask, full proof, pure pot still rum in the rockley style is still a rare and special thing.
