I spotted this in yesterdays Times newspaper, and thought you may find it amusing.
Throughout January The Times have been running stories of how men of the cloth have tried to put you off the devil's drink. Some one wrote in with a tale of a Methodist priest who during a sermon put one worm in a glass of water and another in a glass of whisky. By the end, the worm in the whisky had died, while the other survived.
"What does this prove?" the priest boomed. A parishioner raised his hand and responded: "That if you have worms, you should drink whisky." _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |

I'll drink to wormless health then!
This type of preaching is very common where I'm from, in the bible belt of the US.
Of course, always excluded from these types of messages is the fact that the good book not once says to completely abstain from the drink. However, it does address drunkenness and drunkards.
Not the same....

| As a Christian I am always re-assured by the story of when Jesus turns water into wine! |

Tequila, "the other drink" is often known for having a worm in the bottom of the bottle. Actually, it's the larva of a moth that originally used to infest the agave plant that was used for the drink mezcal and was originally put in that type of spirit bottle in 1951 and then at some point the cross over occurred to tequila bottles. It is sometimes viewed as an aphrodisiac and there is some discussion as to which is better tasting, the white or red "worm". You learn something everyday.

| I grew up in North Carolina. We were a big tobacco producing state so nobody talked about the evils of cigarettes. However, alcohol was frowned on . . . especially by Baptists. If you wanted to drink you became a Presbyterian or a Lutheran. |
