Here are my taste notes from last night when my friend Brian cracked open a bottle of Macallan 18, 2016 Release his son brought him from the USA to Canada for Christmas and asked me to join him.

Color
: Bronze

Nose: A thread of Turkish delight unravels in a "delightful way". Pungent grape notes appear with an underlay of steeped tea bags. Stewed black cherries with a hint of cherries jubilee and candy arise with some faint smoky notes hovering over dark fruit. Red licorice uncoils an inner sweetnes fuelled by the sherry influence. Late flambeed bananas with ripe purple plums and a nutty-blueberry melange satisfy. The nuttiness builds being tugged along the olfactory train.

Taste: Full-bodied and creamy smooth initially. The sweetness lights up from a fruity profile to more candied notes, the cherry cream a prominent source of enjoyment. A sweeter throat lozenge comes through and as the whisky opens, buttermilk pancakes and Swiss chocolate malted milk. The palate is a revolving door of fruit and candy. A thicker presence evolves with chewy elements as time marches on. Very late sweet chestnuts.

Finish: Long, the fruity sweetness perseverates and is an unrelenting friend. An eruption of dark chocolate finishes the plan.

Comments: The 2016 Release is welcomed and proves to be a substantial dram that emphasizes the sweeter side of things but in high class fashion with a wonderful cornucopia of aromas and flavors. Though it is not for aficionados who have their heart set on a spice fix, it is recommended for those with a sweet tooth and a penchant for dessert.

Score: 90.5

Great note as always, thanks for sharing your thoughts on it, you rarely see many reviews on the Macallan 18 these days given its price now. Sounds like it is worth try.

I have had a couple of bottles of the Mac 18 2016, I enjoyed it but with the price of the Mac 18 now I want it to blow me away each time, this wasn't far off it but not quite there.
