When you buy/open a new bottle do you keep the box/tin/packaging that it came in?
Kind Regards

Yes. I like to have a bit of something to show some provenance. However I have heard from some people that cardboard can have a detrimental effect on the quality of the whisky. I haven't experienced this myself but then I think it only applies to bottles that are stored in boxes after being opened. Few bottles survive for long after I've started on them |

I don't keep the boxes/tins - they go straight in the wheely bin as soon as the botttle is opened.
Mind you, I did toy with the idea of putting all the different empty bottles up on a shelf... until I realised that I don't have sufficient space for such a shelf. There are an awful lot of whiskies that I want to try, and their bottles would take up a lot of space in the long term. My house is not large. (I live alone, and have no need of anywhere bigger. Mind you, it is a bit of a nuisance having to move the car out of the whisky store when I want to get a new bottle out.)

Hey also said to use little magnets to polarize car fuel lines to increase efficiency and dip a bit of treacle onto rum to remove it's sweetness (where additional sugar has been added).
He's a bit fancy of spouting tosh to fill out the other 10mins of his 20min vlogs...
after the 7 or 8 mins of actual whisky reviewing
Cardboard or tin container effecting the taste of a sealed whisky......pull the other one. _________________ "Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whisky is barely enough." |

What's the point of the cardboard/tin, anyway? Isn't it just unnecessary and wasteful extra packaging?

It's nice to look at and makes the whole thing a nice gift - u suspect done as a marketing thing originally and it took off. It also stops light from getting through to the whisky. _________________ "Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whisky is barely enough." |

That's not an issue here - my whisky store is dark except when I (a) turn the light on, or (b) open the outside door in order to take the car out or put it in.

I chuck the packaging. I have about 15 bottles of whisky on top of my drinks cabinet (at the moment) and usually 5 on the go at any one time. The packaging just gets in the way.
Plus, I like the way I can see the bottles as it looks a little like a bar |

| Personally, I love the packaging, I appreciate the effort that it takes to produce interesting designs and give an impression of what the contents are supposed to be like. Everything stays in the box until I open it and sometimes even them. |

I display the bottles and keep the packaging elsewhere. I also take a picture of it all now and again...
This is purely for insurance purposes though. I cant say this will work as I've never had to try it, but if theres a fire/theft then I would hope to prove my collection with pictures and all of my boxes in the loft etc. It might at least help, especially when you are dealing with 60+ bottles.
Don't believe any of the flavour/cardboard stuff myself. |

I just bought a bottle of Glenmorangie 25. You're darn right I'm keeping the box! |
