What is your best guess as to how many bottles from the 6,000 released worldwide of Bowmore The Devil's Casks Batch 1, 56.9% abv. remain unopened or "undrunk"?
There was such anticipation when it came out that purchases were limited to 1 bottle per customer in Scotland and elsewhere I understand. Lately, on auction sites in Europe there are fewer and fewer bottles of batch 1 up for auction and prices seem to be gradually increasing again. One auction site in Scotland has one that currently has been bid up to 190 British pounds and I expect it will go higher before the auction ends on Sunday. Almost everyone I know that was able to get a hold of one bottle when it was first released, drank it long ago. So would you think there are less than 500 still left worldwide?

Murray, no bottles of Release 1 at today whisky auction in Germany. There were sold 3 btls of Release II, two for 190, and one for 180 EUR.

IMO you can get good price for Release 1 (app. 250 EUR at EU auction sites nowadays, which is very good compared to the RRP of 70 EUR at the time of release) but if you can hold them a bit longer you will be able to go much higher in a year or two.

I was bidding for few bottles of GlenDronach at the auction but prices went too high, maybe I will try get few others tomorrow at Scottish auction, if price will be right. Glendronach single cask bottlings are bloody expensive in EU but occasionally you can get rather good price for 18 to 24 yo Oloroso/PX casks.

I was able to get 10 bottles of Devil's Casks Batch 1 when it was released here in Ontario, Canada by the LCBO at $99. Cdn ( that would be about 52 pounds each bottle equivalent for those more familiar with pounds stirling) and I have only opened one bottle. I travelled around Ontario to get that many bottles. I feel pretty good having 9 bottles put away. I don't know personally of anyone who has more.... Very Happy

I purchased a bottle today in a shop in Glasgow for £110. It was closing down, but I had to snare it.
