| When you see what the standard prices of these releases are now you realise that the Aldi or Lidl supermarket relases are just not to be missed if you want to taste whiskies of this age as original distillery bottlings of this kind of age are becoming out of the majority of peoples price range. I would love to taste this but it is too rich for me for a 25/26 year old. |

All this pricing does is push me towards the IBs which I know in turn will increase their pricing, if my actions are representative of the market they are appealing to. It does mean I do more comprehensive research over a bottle, which appeals to my whisky obsessive side so I suppose I have the greed of the distillery companies to thank, especially the ones that still release stuff to the ib companies! Just fell off me soapbox |

They try to imitate good/bad wine vintages:
“There is also another reason why 1990 is a memorable year, there had been a poor barley harvest the previous summer which proved problematic for whisky makers in 1990. The barley was difficult to process through Scotland’s distilleries in 1990 and only a small amount of new-make spirit was produced that year.â€
It’s pathetic…
(there are so many great SC 1990 vintage from IB on the market at the moment) |

You're right. I know at least two whiskyphiles that along with myself are going down the route of IBs in 2017. There's some awesome stuff out there that's not that expensive (yet) and it tastes even better when you get it for a song. As jcarrick says too - the Glen Marnochs of this world @ £39.99 really really become worth it.
However - I do think this is well overpriced. Well overpriced and that's a shame, some of the recent Glenmorangie numbers have been excellent and competitively priced. I was toying with getting a Glengoyne 25 or Bunnahabain 25 for the collection and both come in at least a half the price. |

It does seem like pricing like this is a sign of things to come if you you want to drink anything above a NAS or entry level 10/12 year old.
I fear that the independent bottlers will simply follow not far behind the original distillery bottling's regards pricing. Why would they charge £100s less when at the end of the day they are a money making business.
I think the big companies know that even if whisky enthusiasts such as us rejects their pricing and does not buy at these prices there are enough gift and occasional buyers with plenty of money who will. |

*sigh*
I heard the next Ardbeg release was finished in casks that previously contained the tears of angels and spent time maturing in the same room as a unicorn, as it's breath was instrumental in creating the exotic flavours contained in the final spirit. _________________ "Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whisky is barely enough." |

I will have to make do with my bottle of Glenmorangie 18 and imagine what another 7 years in the cask would have tasted like |

| I would love to read a few reviews on it to see what some trusted reviewers think of it. |
