I assume im not the only one that has that special bottle.
A bottle youve had for a while......price, favourite or sentimental.

Do you have any and why?
Ive a glenfiddich 12 in a poor card gift box. My son......with a little help bought it for fathers day when he was 12. Ive never opened it as i was always waiting for a special time to share it with him.
Worth nothing of note bar a sentimental tipple one day.
How about you?

"Carsebridge 1960 42 year old" sherry matured, single cask grain. The deep hue of the whisky in this old Signatory bottling has to be seen to be believed. It just looks magnificent and I love it for that.

I've got a bottle of Yoichi 20yo 1990 vintage (vintage release not the general 20yo). It was quite expensive at the time, and that was before Japanese stuff went mental, so I dread to think what it's worth now given the 15yo jumped from £50/60 to £200. Been holding on to this for quite some tim and I daren't open it.....It's also got a lovely label.

A 1970s Johnnie Walker Swing from my Dad.

He's not a whisky drinker and doesn't get why I'm so into it, but he received this Swing many decades ago as a gift and recently gave it to me. This is the only bottle of whisky that he has ever given me so it's fairly special.

In no particular order, I have been buying bottles to share on special occasions when the kids get older:

Ardbeg Alligator committee
Talisker 25
Glenfarclas 40
Probably Speysides finest 47 year old
Glendronach hand filled
Tweedale blend batch 1
Laphroaig 18 & 21
HP 21

Although I could wait for my eldest to get married and knowing my luck it may never happen!!!

Ben Nevis 1990 Single Port Cask. Got loads of senterment, 1st of all it was distilled the day I was born (6th November 1990). 2nd got it the day my son was born and was really my 1st big splurge on a bottle. I've had a good few drams over the last couple of years, but still something very special. I also sent a sample to Joe from Whisky Wednesday when he signed off and he let me know his thoughts

1983 Glen Deveron 12 year old - Macduff 200th anniversary edition

My dad has kept this for over 30 years convinced it would be worth a fortune in years to come. He was distraught when I told him he'd be lucky to get £100 for it! I'm hoping one day we can put it to good use and finish it off together as a rare father and son bonding moment!

That's a neat thread to explore. I have a number of unique bottles stashed away. However, I'm paticularly pleased with my stash of Devil's Casks Batch 1.

If I was to single out one bottle which is special to me it would be the Bunnahabhain 1968 Auld Acquaintance, distilled on Hogmanay 1968, the year I was born and it is a superb expression of Bunnahabhain, I wish I bought more bottles when it was released, I bought 4 and have 1 left. I think it was just under £100 when I bought them and it now fetches £1750 in shops, making it difficult to justify opening the last bottle.

I have a few bottles of the Macallan 18 from the 1980s and 1990s which I consider special, I always used to buy some for drinking and put a bottle away intending to drink it one day.

Great thread Smile

A couple of bottles spring to mind...

A Bruichladdich Black Art 4 (which at the time was the most I had ever spent on a bottle), I saw it on offer and being a Bruichladdich fan decided to go for it, it was opened to celebrate the birth of my son in December 2014.

I've also got a Signatory Vintage 32yo 1979 Bunnahabhain. I tried this at Edradour at the end of a fantastic family holiday in Scotland - then spent the following year saving up to buy a bottle (this is my most expensive bottle to date and will probably be for some time!). I opened it to celebrate my 40th Birthday earlier this year.

Knowing my love for Scotch whisky the family have bought me a few special bottles over the years, most of which I consumed with great pleasure one which they gifted me after I bought and consumed a bottle already was the Macallan 1938 65 year old Speymalt bottling, a fabulous sherried Macallan. I kept a bottle thinking I can share it with my son and grandson someday, a special occasion, perhaps my grandsons wedding, that's a long way off at the moment as he is still at primary school. Anyway I doubt many people would be able to afford a 65 year old Macallan by the time he is an adult.

Most people can't afford a 65 year old Macallan right now. They are $35,000! Shocked
