Dear all,

i am looking for a bottle very similar i taste and quality as Macallan 18.
Glenfarclas are not readily available at my local liquor store (LCBO).
I was told that Dalmore 18 is a very good dram and quite similar in quality. Macallan ruby is not easy to find, and I just felt it is not as good as the 18 (though I only tried it once). Macallan rare cask is not cheap..

I have Glengoyne 21, which I love.

Any suggestions? Is the Dalmore 18 quite similar to the Macallan 18?

First of all I would suggest giving the Dalmore 18 a miss, packed with caramel and not in the same league as the Macallan.

Macallan Ruby ha been discontinued so is becoming hard to get hold of.

If you want to spend the money then the Macallan Rare Cask is good.

Have you tried these:

Aberlour 18
Glendronach 18 and 21
Balvenie 17 Doublewood
Glenfarclas 17

I will 2nd Marks suggestions and particularly the Glendronach 21

Dalmore 18 is ok but like many other Dalmores let down by the heavy caramel whether natural or added. Dalmore talks a good game and presents very attractive packaging but is often a let down in my experience.

Can you get hold of the Glenfarclas 30 year old? Or look out for any Glenfarclas Family Casks bottlings which are usually pretty special.

Glendronach 21 as mentioned above and look out for Glendronach single cask bottlings which have been good prices but prices are rising.

I bought Aberlour A'Bunadh. Its a cask strength bottle, in my experience those are either a hit or miss. I've read a few good reviews about the A'Bunadh and since the Aberlour 18 was not available at my local store, I picked this one up.

I'll report back after trying it..

I have two bottles of Macallan 18, vintage 1994 and 1997 where are you located in Ontario, I'm sure we can work out a bottle trade.

The Macallan 21 is one of my favorites.
