I tasted a few whiskies from Gordon & MacPhail
Gordon & MacPhail Connoisseurs Choice Tomatin 1997 Review
Tomatin 1997 was matured in Refill Bourbon Barrels. A cracking example of just how enjoyable this distillery can be when matured in quality casks. Considering the age and quality of this whisky, for the price I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.
Gordon & MacPhail Connoisseurs Choice Tormore 1997 Review
Tormore 1997 was matured in 1st Fill Bourbon barrels. So many whisky producers are trying to substitute age with 1st Fill Bourbon barrels these days but when you get a whisky that has been matured for a decent number of years in 1st Fill Bourbon, around 17 years in this case, you end up with and very complex and in this case very good whisky.
Gordon & MacPhail Connoisseurs Choice BenRiach 1997 Review
BenRiach 1997 was matured in Refill Sherry Hogshead casks which have imparted just a delicate sherry influence on this 1997 vintage whisky, but the oak still has a big say in its profile. Perhaps a livelier sherry cask may have made this more fun on the fruity side but it certainly isn't lacking on the pepper and oak spice side.
Gordon & MacPhail Connoisseurs Choice Ledaig 1999 Review
Ledaig 1999 was matured in Refill remade Hogshead casks. The choice of casks has made this quite different to the original distillery bottling offerings as independent bottlings should be. The peat has been tamed a little in the years it has spent in the cask which you expect, this a good example of this peaty dram from the Tobermory distillery.
The MacPhail's Collection Bunnahabhain 2006 Review
This MacPhail's Collection Bunnahabhain 2006 was matured in a combination of First Fill and Refill Sherry Hogsheads casks. A young and fun sherried Bunna and an excellent affordable everyday dramming unpeated expression from the Islay distillery.

Good to hear that Tomatin is so good.
I’m trying to stay away from Connoisseurs Choice range (46%) lately because most of them I tasted (30-40) were rather mediocre. |

I have a bottle of the Connoisseurs Choice Tomatin 1997 it is very good.
I have had a more than a few hits and a couple of misses with the G & M Connoisseurs Choice whiskies over the years but nothing bad. I have found a few gems in that time. It is always good to read a review to give you an indication of the quality to expect when putting out your hard earned cash, and you never see very many reviews of the indie whiskies, cheers William |

| The Tormore is tempting to me, I have not tried much from this distillery. I see it is £60 over at TWE, a possibility for my next order. |

Had the pleasure of another G & M whisky this week:
Gordon & MacPhail Rare Vintage Strathisla 1967
The Gordon & MacPhail Rare Vintage Strathisla 1967 was matured in 1st Fill Sherry butts and bottled in 2015. I just love these old mature sherried drams and this is a classic example of just that. The sherried fruit, oak and spice are all big contributors, keeping each other in check and not letting the other overwhelm, complimenting and balancing each other. _________________ There's no bad whisky. William, this one sounds right in my wheel house as they say.

It comes as no surprise to me after reviewing it back in May this year, the Gordon & MacPhail Connoisseurs Choice Tomatin 1997 which I scored 91/100 has scooped a gold medal at the International Wine and Spirit Competition 2016, well deserved.
