The Balvenie Malt Master David Stewarts career now spans almost 54 years and today David will be recognised for his services to the Scotch whisky industry when he will be presented with an MBE medal by a member of the royal family at a ceremony in The Palace of Holyroodhouse, Edinburgh, Scotland.

David’s list of key achievements as The Balvenie Malt Master includes the development of two cask maturation in the 1980s, unheard of at the time, but these days an established technique referred to as ‘finishing’ and widely enjoyed as The Balvenie DoubleWood 12 Year Old and The Balvenie DoubleWood 17 Year Old.

To congratulate David why not #RaiseADram at 19.45 (the year David was born) along with other whisky enthusiasts to roast David on his well deserved achievement.

You can read a bit more about David here:

Don't forget to #RaiseADram at 19.45 this evening UK time.

Any excuse to #RaiseADram of the Balvenie is fine by me. the 12 Doublewood is still one of my go to favourite malts.

I see that it was the Queen who presented David with his MBE this afternoon, well deserved. What I like about David and the Balvenie is he is a down to earth man who knows his stuff and is a pleasure to chat to unlike some of the celebrity malt masters of other brands, at least they think that they are celebrities. I will certainly pour a Balvenie this evening and raise a dram.

The Balvenie sent me a few photos of David collecting his MBE from the Queen today at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, here is one:

Raising a dram of the now iconic Balvenie 12 Doublewood and have a superb Balvenie Tun 1509 batch 3 to follow it with.

Well, that didn't go according to plan - my bottle of Balvenie Doublewood on the shelf was actually empty and I thought I had a Single Barrel somewhere but it was nowhere to be found! Time to restock...

I am not on twitter either but had some Balvenie 17 Doublewood to toast David, great to see him recognised like this as the man has made many people happy over the years with his whisky creations.
