| The Macallan Ruby just went up 50.00 a bottle overnight. Now 350.00 a bottle. What a joke. I'm soooooo sick of having the *#%? Poured to me every time I want to buy a new bottle of Whisky. |

Yes, it was 299.00 a bottle yesterday. I'll never be able to understand how a company can increase the price of a product that has been in stock for 6 months.
When you need to reorder yes......prices increase all the time. Our dollar is circling the drain. But not after you've paid a set price long ago. That's just screwing your customers. Something our Government run LCBO does time and time again. |

Interesting and perhaps paradoxical that the Macallan Amber at the LCBO is now $89.95 from $99.99 on sale. I expect it has not been a big seller here while the Ruby has garnered a lot of whisky aficionado attention. As for the Macallan Gold currently going for $74.95, I have the feeling I paid less than that for the bottle I purchased at the LCBO early in the year. However in general, it's the inevitable price creep intrinsic to business and what the market is willing to bear. I do agree with Sorren's post and sentiment in regard to pricing, marketing and presumed bargains. The situation in Ontario is also affected by the monopoly of one seller of spirits, the LCBO so they set the rules, prices and there is no competition. However, occasionally even here deals of really stellar limited release bottles of single malt come up at reasonable prices such as what happened with Glenfiddich Cask of Dreams and Bowmore The Devils Casks on offer before they sold out. However, it's also interesting that certain bottles such as Ardbeg Perpetuum Islay Single Malt stayed on the shelves at the LCBO for a much longer time and gradually is selling out but not as fast as anticipated here. The whisky market is becoming as unpredictable as the stock market with its inevitable ups and downs. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

*sigh*
I may have to give up drinking scotch if the LCBO continues to rip us off,I may no longer be able to afford it.
The Glenfiddich 18 just went from 119.00 ( which was fair) to 156.45
So a 37.00 increase overnight. I'm growing tired of this trend here in the people's republic of Ontario. |

Hi Jay. Wow. I just checked too. You're absolutely right. It jumped to $156.45
Glenlivet 18 still at $119.95 for the moment.

| It is around £60 for the Glenlivet 18 here, hopefully they have no plans to increase the price here if so there are many other options to explore for more a few pounds more. |

It really bothers me Murray. The Fiddich 18 is one of my staples. I always have one on the bar and it's close to being my weekly drinker. |

Criminal!!
Just saw the Macallan Ruby last week here at Costco (Alberta) for $199. $350... that's almost how much a Macallan Rare Cask cost here...
Just picked up a bottle of Aberfeldy 21 last week for $104, then saw it for $210 two stores over... unbelievable. |

So, the Macallan Ruby is gone from the LCBO app and website.
So they've removed it, or will soon show it again with a huge price increase.
Because as of Friday evening, there were over 700 bottles in Ontario |

Hi Richard. The LCBO is the Liquor Control Board of Ontario, Canada which is the government body that controls all whisky selling in the Province. There are approximately 651 LCBO liquor stores in Ontario. There is because of this no competitive pricing and the LCBO has a pure monopoly on liquor sales, not only whisky but all spirits. There are also no auction houses for spirits allowed due to the monopoly and spirits cannot be imported by post directly to Canada either from abroad. So for example no one here can buy directly from Master of Malt or The Whisky Exchange shops as they cannot (are not allowed to) deliver to Canada. Very limited amounts of personal liquor can be brought back if one vacations outside of Canada for fixed periods. Any attempt to bring liquor let's say from our neighbor the USA back to Canada other than 1 bottle a person after a stay of so many days can lead to duties of 70% of the value of the liquor. Tough situation really. It's been like this since 1927 I believe. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

Just to add to what Murray has said. The LCBO is the LARGEST purchaser of Alcohol in the World. No company anywhere in the world buys more alcohol than the LCBO.
As such, they get the best prices anywhere in the World.....yet the prices us Whisky lovers here in Ontario pay are some of the Highest in the world. Clearly something must be done, however I have no idea where to start to fight this antiquated system. |
