For less money than the Glengoyne 21, you can get the Glendronach 15 Revival (if you can find it) or Glendronach 18. They're both sherry-matured so of a similar flavour profile to the Glengoyne 21 - and in my opinion, better, at least as far as the Glendronach 15 is concerned! For even less you can get the Glenfarclas 15, a seriously good dram and for some people the pick of the Glenfarclas core range.

All three of these whiskies are bolder than the Glengoyne 21, but have similar flavour characteristics.

I've actaully been thinking of trying a glenfraclas so might pick a bottle up as the Glengoyne was nice but for £100/£120 not sure it's worth the money, I actually have two bottles of the glendronach 15 just not had the chance to open it yet, I'm a big fan of theirs. I'll price the Glenfarclas 15 thanks for the advice 👍🏼

I really enjoyed the Glengoyne 18 and Glenfarclas 17

I have yet to open my bottle of Glengoyne 21

I've found the Glenfarclas 15 to be a very characterful malt - I've been lucky enough to try most of the Glengoyne range and whilst I'd ay they are all very good quality, to my tastes they are much more subtle than the Glenfarclas. I did a Glenfarclas tasting last year and the 15 was outstanding.

Glendronach has already been mentioned if it's big sherry drams that you're after - some of their single casks bottlings are superb but similar in price to the Glengoyne 21, although one of the best Glendronachs I've had was the Green Welly 50th Anniversary bottling (the first of the three) which if I recall was only 11yo and around the £50 mark and it was amazing.

Aberlour A'Bunadh always gets a mention when the conversation turns to sherried drams - NAS but usually good quality and relatively cheap especially if you find it on offer in the supermarket.

My advice... try as many as you can Top Malt

Indeed, that's why I said that the Glenfarclas and Glendronach recommendations will be bolder than the Glengoyne. I'm surprised you mentioned the Aberlour A'bunadh though, which is way more 'in your face' than either of the above (not that it's not a good whisky, mind).

ive seen the aberlour a'bunadh mentioned alot, ive tried the 10 year old and enjoyed that, i only really started drinking whisky about a year ago so slowly building up my collection and trying to get different flavors to see my favourite and can remember being at the glengoyne tour and really enjoying the 21

as i said in one of the previous post i do have a few bottles of glendronach of different ages and only so far opened and tried a few

the glenfarclas bottles always seem to pop up aswell and was actually reading reviews comparing the 21 glengoyne and 21 glenfarclas but thats a few people now mentioned the 15 year old glenfarclas so i think i defo have to give this and the aberlour a'bunadh a try

hahaha trust me i aim to try as many as i can

The A'bunadh is in a different league to the standard 10, which I don't really rate. I do have the 12 and 16, but haven't opened them yet. Amazon have the A'bunadh for around £35 at the minute which is a decent price, even better when it sometimes goes on lightning deal.

The Glenfarclas 15 is good too, for a bit more (ok, double the price) TWE do a cask-strength version of the same whisky, which is well worth exploring if you do find you like the 15, in my opinion. I have also been impressed with the M&S 2003 Glenfarclas (bottled in 2013), which they often have on offer - obviously a younger whisky than the 15 but not quite as harsh on the palate as the standard 10yr offering.

Surely a mistake or have I read this wrong Glenfarclas 105 litre bottle for £35 + £9 for delivery, the delivery seems expensive but also on Amazon 70cl for £45

It's shipped from Germany - about a year ago I went on Amazon.de and ordered (not sure if it was Limato-shop or another seller, Amazon.de won't sell it to the UK themselves) but it arrived a few days later, for the same price as a 70cl bottle over here (or perhaps cheaper). With the exchange rate being what it is, it might be cheaper to do it through Amazon.co.uk these days...
