|
|
I had the opportunity today to have a private tour of New Limburg Brewery in Simcoe, Ontario about 150 kilometers from my home. I tried several of their beers and totally enjoyed their Black Sheep 5.2% Milk Stout
I had along talk with the father and son owners and my view of how the nosing process is very similar regardless of alcoholic beverage. I did my spontaneous taste note for the above mentioned expression and gave it to one of the owners. He got a kick out of it.
Here it is:
Color: Coal body with a thick brownish-caramel head.
Nose: An explosion of dark chocolate with high cocoa content, fresh brewed Ethiopian bold coffee and pungent stewed prunes. There is a momentous earthiness that diffuses with a wonderful thud into the olfactory sense.
Taste: Full bodied, very creamy; a wonderful sweet thick lava with intense doppio expresso notes, Australian black licorice and shades of black truffle.
Finish: Long, roasted chestnuts, earthy perseveration, elements of old cedar chest and an exquisite deep maltiness.
Comments: The Black Sheep is a meaty beer with solid character and magnificent flavors.
Rating: 90.5
***It may be comparing be apples and oranges, i.e., whisky vs. beer but taste notes are taste notes....
