Sivo L'essence du Single Malt- A Quebec whisky

I had the opportunity to try Sivo L'essence du Single Malt 1 Edition from Quebec, Canada at 42% abv.

Here's some production information I found out about the distillery and the whisky before I went down to Montreal:

Here's my taste notes from last week which I prepared while I was in the "big city", i.e., Montreal.

Color-Gold

Nose: Instant woody notes with unpleasant turpentine and perhaps a smidgen of cedar chest. Waves of citronella, lemon drops and smoke from a wood-burning stove erupt all at once. Smoked salmon and sardines come a calling.

Taste: The woody theme continues with great intensity with a backdrop of some spice underscoring peppery notes. It is quite astringent. The turpentine hues continue and are unwanted.

Finish: Lingering with shades of echinacea herbal lozenges and spruce beer.

Comments: This expression is obviously a very young whisky, sharp and brazen. The woody-forest notes, chemical taste and oaky tannin overpower all else at times. This one has a long way to go but one has to start somewhere.
