Highland Park Return of The Vikings was a single cask bottling, Cask No. 413, distilled in 1979 and bottle 2008, bottled at 56.1 % ABV, I believe there was only a total of 84 bottles. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |

I haven't seen this at auction here in the UK, so it is difficult to put a price on it.
The story behind the Highland Park Return of The Vikings bottling as I understand it is the Edrington Group, owner of Highland Park arranged a trip to the Highland Park Distillery for a few Swedes, the trip was called "Return of the Vikings". The trip included a chartered flight from Stockholm to Orkney, a two nights stay on Orkney and a special bottling of Highland Park called "Return of the Vikings". This all cost €1200. As it did not go on general release and there were only 84 bottles most people have never heard of it and it is also the reason it is virtually never seen at auction particularly here in the UK as I would guess all the bottles went to Sweden.
Those who took the trip from Sweden to Orkney did feel a little cheated because a few months later HP released the Highland Park Ambassador’s Cask No.4, it was the same cask and cost only £225 at the time.
As you can imagine there were a few unhappy Swedes, Highland Park tried to compensate them by giving them a 35cl bottle called "Return of the Vikings 2" with a guarantee that the rest of the cast would not be bottled as a single cask bottling.
I wouldn't like to guess and put a price on it which may mislead you, all I will say is it should do well in the right auction and perhaps the story behind it will make it more interesting to collectors. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |

Wow.. What a great in sight in history you have Got
So there have actually been two bottlelings of the same cask? I do understand why the swede felt a little "cheated".
I google it and Saw it was sold at a swedish auction for around 310 £ aprox. But it should be worth a bit more in my opinion.
While we are at it, i am also biding on a HP 25 y/o. But it looks different from the new or regular once. I think it might be an older version. I Will try to find a pic and post it |
