Hi guys

Reasonably long time lurker, first time poster...

It's been great reading all the reviews and the differing opinions on the many subjects covered here and seeing pictures of your collections.

I blame my brother for the fact I developed such an interest in whisky, he introduced me to it in early 2013 and we very quickly arrange a trip up to Scotland to get some hands on experience, visiting a number of distilleries and sampling as many different drams as we could. A great time.

Since then I've been lucky enough to attend a number of locally organised tastings and visit Scotland again as well as try a fair few drams in the interim Smile

Anyway, getting to the point, I was wondering if any of you guys had heard of Chapter 7 Whisky? They are a Swiss based independent bottler. I discovered them a couple of months ago and have had a couple of sample sets from them that I have enjoyed very much - highlights being their 1996 Glentauchers and a 1995 Tormore. Would love to hear any of your opinions.

John

Good to have another come out of the shadows, welcome to the forum John.

I am aware of Chapter 7 Whisky but I haven't tried any of their whisky. I recall looking at some of their bottlings and thought their pricing was a little high for a relatively unknown indie bottler, the bottles you mention Tormore 1995 was around £110 and Glentauchers 1996 was £100.

Thanks Bookie Smile

I haven't bought any of their full bottles yet, just the tasting sets (from www.wanthology.com), if I recall the cost was pretty reasonable compared to Master of Malt, they were 5cl bottles too not the 3cl like you get from MoM and a similar price if I recall, even with the shipping. I did look for a 70cl bottle of the Glentauchers, as I really enjoyed it, but couldn't find it available online anywhere.

It seems that whisky is generally getting more expensive. I've seen a steady rise in the majority of prices over the last 3 years, makes me wish I'd bought more when it was cheaper Smile

I am not familiar with them either. You would expect a new indie bottler to come in with prices below established bottlers but it is certainly changed days, new bottlers seem to be able to ask and get the big price tags.

Gordon & MacPhail have released some superb bottling's of Glentauchers for much less, and you will find a few indie bottles of Tormore for less, older and bottled at high or cask strength.

Chapter 7 Whisky is probably priced for its target marketplace where perhaps there isn't a big choice of the indie bottling's which we have here in the UK.

Hi James

I don't know how long they have been around, but certainly pretty new to me - I was drawn to them because of the sample sets rather than the full bottles, in fact I don't think any full bottles were available via their website - it was a good way for me to try a range of different whisky at a price I could afford, I used an offer code too for the first set which I thought made it really good value. Also the pound was quite strong against the Euro at the time of purchase too so that helped as well.

Thanks for the heads up on the Gordon & MacPhail bottlings, I'll have to look out for those - roll on payday Wink

I decided to have a go at this - https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/award-winning-single-malt-whisky-bottler-s-club#/

There is now more info on their website too (http://www.wanthology.com/collections), showing the discounted prices for the Gold membership which seem like a pretty good discount... from what I can tell you can't buy anything yet, says they launch on the 2nd June.

If the quality of these new bottlings is anything like the samples I've tried they should be very good indeed Smile
