The Macallan Distillery is set to release 5,000 bottles of The Macallan Fine Oak 12 Year Old as part of an exclusive UK only offer. You are invited to register for a chance to purchase before it goes on general sale through The Macallan distillery online shop and selected UK whisky specialists.

An ok price when you compare it to what the Macallan Fine Oak 10 is selling for now in the whisky shops.

Yes, I got the email today too, not long after the Dark Cove's notification. These offers are like buses, nothing for a while then they all come along at once! So much for me saving some money this month. I imagine the Lagavulin 8yo email will be next so I can kiss goodbye to some new shoes.

The Macallan 12 looks like it always did but we happy 1500 get a collectable box. Well I'll be sure to spend many hours admiring it before drinking the whisky and having the cardboard framed.

I do wonder if there was much interest in the release and how quickly will they be on the auction web sites?

I received a 2nd email today saying I was successful in securing a bottle but had 2nd thoughts as I want it for drinking so the special packaging doesn't mean much to me and it may be cheaper when it hits the shops.

I'd be surprised if they drop the Â£55 price for the remaining bottles, especially since you'd be hard pushed to find a 10yo 'Fine Oak' for much less than Â£50 these days. If anything the price might go up. But I thought that for the Glenmorangie pre-release offer of Â£40 for the 'A Midwinter Night's Dram' and that hit the supermarkets at a lot less. It depends how they intend to offload the remaining 3500.

I'm having second thoughts - I think I'll pass on this. What Macallan have done with the introduction of their NAS range is to convince us that a chill-filtered 12 year-old whisky bottled at 40% ABV is worth Â£55...

I managed to get two bottles today - both signed by Ernie Button himself. I believe he was in Dufftown for the whisky festival and signed a few.

I'm drinking one and keeping one. Any ideas what the signed ones are worth?
