Has anyone used wine preserver gas to keep their whisky fresh? It's a mixture of nitrogen, carbon dioxide & argon that settles on top of the liquid & prevents oxidisation.
No, never used it - I have wondered about it but generally I don't have bottles open long enough to need it but I do decant into 5cl miniatures if there is a particular dram I want to save for later.
I believe this subject has come up on the Forum in the past. I think the consensus was to leave well enough alone and that would be my opinion. The less you mess with a dram the better. I have had the occasional bottle that had been open for 2-3 years and I did not experience any degradation in the aroma or flavors I expected from it. In these cases, the bottles were at least half full for much of the time, some less. The idea of decanting into miniatures has been raised in the past as an alternative as well. Personally, I don't do it. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."
