Certainly a fantastic price for a 40 year old whisky but is the whisky good. There are not many distilleries which independent bottlers don't name on the bottle. For example it is rare to see Glenfarclas named on an indie bottle as indie bottlers wouldn't wish to spoil their relationship with the distillery. Also less desirable distilleries are sometimes bottled as Speyside single malt without naming the distillery.

Do let us know what you think of it if you go for it.

Indeed, I thought the price was very good - but that also raises the question, why is it priced like that? Other 40yo's I seen have been at least £300 going anywhere up to silly money.

The email I got from Cadenheads said this...

--------

The label states the region obviously being Speyside, then we have the amazing age statement 40 years old. This is a bourbon oak cask matured whisky, so perfect for those who want a nice clear range of tastes.

It’s very smooth naturally for a dram that’s 40 years old, with the right balance of soft oak and spice along with hints of bread and butter pudding (Ok i am hungry now)

We tried this dram with salted caramel chocolate and it was a real delight. Some soft edges towards the end of the dram gave way to a little nuttiness too.

-----------

Not sure which distillery it is from that decsription, but doubt it's Glenfarclas - a quick google on 'Whisky tasting notes bread abd butter pudding' returned a lasting for Aberlour but that doesn't seem right either...

Is any of that important? Whilst it's a good price it's still expensive (for me) but is it any good?

Possibly a cask picked up cheap before it dropped below the 40% ABV and couldn't be bottled or sold as Scotch whisky, not naming it does make me a little wary of it but on the other hand William Cadenhead do bottle some terrific whiskies with a good saving when compared to original distillery bottling's.

The description doesn't make it sound over oaked so could be a good bargain.

To be honest I'd not be concerned about the distillery. It may well be a little known one, but it doesn't really matter as long as the whisky is good. Never had a bad bottle of whisky or rum from Cadenhead and at that price it's a no brainer.

I’m thinking of buying a bottle as well.

Cadenhead’s reputation is on the line with each expression - IMO one of the best independent bottler out there (saying as long term Cadenhead’s Club member).

GRRR. Pub night tonight. By the time I got home and gained approval from her indoors (due to my excessive spend this month), it had sold out. Fair play to those that grabbed a bottle - hope you enjoy Top Malt

Sorry you missed out, you need a bit of luck and to be in the right place at the right time, I almost left it too late.

I had reserved one but the price in Cadenhead’s shops in the mainland EU was too high (178 GBP).
