I thought you all may be interested in this years winners from Whisky Magazines World Whisky Awards.

Here are the final winners:

World's Best Whisky Liqueur
Wild Turkey American Honey

World's Best Grain Whisky
Compass Box Hedonism

World's Best New Release
Highland Park 40 Years Old

World's Best Blended Malt Whisky
Taketsuru 21 Years Old

World's Best Blended Whisky
Hanky Bannister 40 Years Old

World's Best American Whiskey
Thomas H. Handy Rye

World's Best Single Malt Whisky
Highland Park 21 Years Old

Interesting to see yet another Japanese whisky pick up an award, is Japanese whisky really that good or is it now fashionable in certain circles to list Japanese whiskies amongst the worlds best, i cant say as i havent tried them but it seems every year now they list another Japanese whisky in one of this awards catagories as the best in the world.

I just looked in The Whisky Exchange and half of these best whiskies are unavailable to buy. What is the point in saying these whiskies are brilliant if you will never be able to try them as they are not availble from one of the top world whisky retailers such as The Whisky Exchange. Perhaps the winners are chosen so that not many people can disagree as they cant get to try them themselves, lol. Laughing

Charlie, if you search around they are all available somewhere in the World. Some are only available in the states and some are available abroad but I found them all somewhere.

I am sure thay are all available somewhere in the world.

My comment was part humour and part observation that that these whiskies are not all available in a premier retailer such as The Whisky Exchange and i dont think any other retailer in the UK carries as good a stock list as The Whisky Exchange.

I understand what you are saying. And they do have one of the most extensive stock lists in world. I will say if you are the UK I found most of them in one store or another in the UK. Some of the American products are only available in the US. But I understand your humor.

I have also noticed that Japanese whiskies have been picking up some of the top awards over varioous catogories in recent years, maybe i have to give it a go and see what it is all about.

They are around but not in a basic bottle shop, even when you do find one, it will only be one.

Some specialist shops carry a few, but demand is defiantely not high.

Only a whisky bar will have it on their shelf no other bars would bother.

Its a pity, but no doubt as whisky awareness continues to improve, it will change.

That is pretty much the same as the UK, i just wondered if Japanese whisky had a bigger market in Australia with it being closer.
