Hi, i pretty new is the scotch world and I need some help to give a gift to someone. I'm from Montreal, Québec, Canada. I wanna spend a maximum of 75$ CAD

I hear a good review about Macallan but also about Aberlour.

There's two products are in my price range:

1. Macallan Gold Highland Scotch (75$)
2. Aberlour 12 Years Highland Scotch (60$)

Wich one are the best price/value and wich one you recommend?

They are both good entry level malts. But for the money the Aberlour for sure, although they are different types of whisky. Assuming it is the double cask version, the Aberlour is sweeter and richer having been in both oak and sherry casks. The Macallan is a more 'traditional', middle of the road inoffensive dram - lighter and less going on.

Yes this is the double cask version Smile thanks a lot I will try it... There's a lot of other scotch in the same price range but i really don't know them (Glenlivet, Glenfidish, Laphroaig, BenRiach, Glen Goriach, Glenfarclas, Glenmorangie, Speyburn, Auchentoshan, Isle of jura...) and more

Welcome to the Forum. I'm originally from Montreal myself. As you note, the SAQ has both offerings. The Macallan Gold to me is not the best example of a Macallan. It lacks some pizzaz in my view though I have to admit that I have had the opportunity to try some super-premium extraordinary Macallans including the Macallan No.6 Lalique which goes for about $4,000. a bottle. I've been spoiled I guess. The Aberlour line is actually quite good from the 10, 12, 16 to 18 year. I am partial to the 16 year but its a bit over your budget at $108. CDN. The Aberlour 12 should be just fine.
Very Happy

Yes, the Sienna is quite good. I particularly like the Macallan Ruby.

Are you suggest me another choice for 75$ than the Aberlour availaible in SAQ or is it the best price/value?

If the person is partial to smoky peaty drams, I would recommend this one:

Laphroaig Quarter Cask Islay Scotch S...
Whisky écossais
Royaume Uni, 750 ml
Code SAQ : 10999938
Pastille de goût : Corsé et fuméSpiritueux à cocktail : Spiritueux fin
Laphroaig Quarter Cask Islay Scotch Single Malt, prix régulier : 72,75 $

Personally I find both the Aberlour 12 and the Macallan Gold very flat and uninspiring.....

If it were me (personal preference and all that) I'd be looking at;

Benriach 12
Benriach 10
Glenfarclas 12
Glendronach 12

....and most likely be picking up a Benriach 12

It wasn't, I cheated.

Took a look on the SAQ website to see what else was on for up to $75....just because I don't like Macallan and the only Aberlour I'd buy is the A'Bunadh Very Happy

I don't know why but I'm always surprised at how much more expensive scotches are outside of Alberta. I picked up my Aberlour 12 for $47+GST in Jan and the Macallan Gold for $56 + GST last ... Sept.

Both very blah imo. For the same amount of coins I think I would go for Glenfarclas 12 ($65), Highland Park 12 ($50), or Glendronach 12 ($55).
