Looking for some feedback on the Macallan Rare Cask.

Available at the LCBO. 399.99 Cdn

I've had better.. For the money I can think of a long list of whisky I'd rather buy.. Don't get me wrong it is a decent dram.. Just not my cup of tea for the money..

I was very surprised to see it. It's been nothing but Gold, Amber , Sienna and Ruby. Which I ( right or wrong) refuse to buy, simply because I'm not convinced the product in the bottle is worth the asking price.

As I don't know anything about this NAS Macallan, I figured I'd ask.

Fightingirish I thought the Macallan Rare Cask was very good although I do like an age statement to justify the price when it is as expensive as this. If you like a decent mature sherried dram with a clear age statement and decent bottling strength I would recommend taking a look at the Glendronach single cask bottling's, not sure how readily available they are over your way but I can highly recommend them going by what I have tasted of their single cask offerings.

I tried the Macallan Rare Cask two weeks ago, it was good but I actually prefer the good old 12 yr sherry.
I also tried the Rare Cask Black at the airport last week, and I enjoyed this more, just a slight hint of peat but at Â£300?

I've tried it. Massively disappointed.

When it was first released in the US it had a Red Wax Seal and was supposed to be rare and for US market only, and at the time all the online reviews looked great. Then later the bottle I managed to obtain had a Red paper Seal (hmmm).

The nose was great, much like a Balvenie Tun 1401 batch 8 type, so we all got hugely excited. But I found the taste to have a sharp burn to it unless you just really sipped. I liked the Ruby better, it was smoother and I'm not a great fan of the Ruby.

I'm not saying there is a connection to the different Seals on the neck, (send out the good stuff first in Wax seals to get good reviews or anything shocking like that!!!). But my particular red paper version certainly didn't match those of the original Red Wax Seal reviews calling it close to Mac25. Odd that.

Ho and I found the Macallan 18 (1996) which is around the same price if you hunt for it better than Macallan Rare Cask and the Ruby by far. Just my opinion to give you some idea.
