Ok Lads.
It's new bottle day ( best day of the month) I have it down to these three, in no order.
1) Glengoyne 18 yr. 169.95 Cdn
2) Glanfarclas 17 yr. 136.95 Cdn
3) Balvenie 12 yr single barrel. 129.95 Cdn
Your thoughts are as always.....much appreciated. I'm sure I'd enjoy either choice. Is there a stand out? |

| Balvenie 12 single barrel would be my first choice closely followed by the Glenfarclas 17. I was quite disappointed by the Glengoyne 18 so it wouldn't be a choice I would make. |

I appreciate your thoughts.
What was it about the Glengoyne that turned you off? |

| The Balvenie 12 single barrel is outstanding and the Glenfarclas 17 is very good also. The Glengoyne 18 is ok but falls short in quality considering its price, it wont ever be a repeat buy for me. |

The Balvenie 12 Single Barrel is an excellent first fill bourbon barrel matured expression of the Balvenie, no big sherry influence with this Balvenie which is found in many of the other Balvenie core range expressions these days. It really is an excellent expression of the Balvenie.
If you like a sherried dram then the Glenfarclas 17 very good.
I have had a hit and miss experience with the Glengoyne 18 since it replaced the 17 year old, the worst of the 18 I have tasted had a bit of a sulphur taint, not much but it shouldn't happen and certainly not at this price range, the best of the Glengoyne 18 I have tasted was ok but still not really worth its price tag IMO. The Glengoyne 21 I have had in recent times has been very good. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |

My opinion for what it's worth would be this...
The balvenie is good like others have said but I would always pick the 15 single barrel over it.. It does not have any floors a is good value for money for what we pay in the uk...
Glenfarclas 17, I just love Glenfarclas around this age, it's almost the perfect age for them, the 15 really does take some beating though.. A sound bottle..
Glengoyne 18, this can be great whisky but sometimes it just isn't, I prefer the cask strength release it has more oooumph lol...
Between your three I'd be happy with either balvenie or Glenfarclas, |

Not had the other 2 but the Balvenie is really a beautiful whisky if you're into a pure bourbon matured dram.
Crickey, they really sting you at the checkout over there don't they! _________________ "Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whisky is barely enough." |

| Opel it almost gives us hope here in the uk lol.. It's hard to advise on buying a bottle when you can get the Balvenie 12 single barrel for £42-45 in uk |

| The balvenie is lovely. I have bottle 150 of 300 or so drawn from a cask and the colour is really cider apple in tone. |

| Another vote for the Balvenie. Although I would echo that if you can get the 15 do it! |

Not seen any 15 bourbon cask for a few months now, think the last was on htfw and was around a ton! Shame, I'm still missing that bottling sometimes I just don't understand why distilleries discontinue some bottles (anCnoc 16 is a classic example), it's certainly not for stock issues.
(Just remembered that sorren has about 2 dozen at his house, maybe I need to arrange a midnight raid) _________________ "Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whisky is barely enough." |

Yes. I would buy the Balvenie 15 SB all day. Hasn't been in Canada in over 2 years. I have the SB Sherry which isn't as good ( to me anyway)
I just bought a Glengoyne 21 so maybe the Balvenie 12 SB to get away from the Sherry. |

Holy why are they so expensive in Toronto?
I picked up a bottle of the Glenfarclas 17 last year for $79.99! (Calgary).
I was looking at the Glengoyne 18 for $129.99 but decided against it.
By the way I love the Glenfarclas. I've tried the 105, 8, 12, 15, 17, 21, and 25 and my favourite (best bang for buck) is the 17yr. I drink it so much that it's the only one I put in a Crystal Decanter and leave it out in the dining room for easy access. |
