Hello everyone,
I'm considering selling a bottle of 1972 Macallan (18y/o), which was left for me by my godfather some years ago.
I'm by no means a whisky expert, but I gather that it's a rather desirable vintage. Unfortunately it's unboxed, which I understand detracts from its value, but as you can see from the photo below the bottle is still in fantastic condition.
I would greatly appreciate any thoughts as to roughly how much this is worth. Again, not being an expert, I'm unsure whether it might actually be better to hold on to it. Is there a 'golden window' to sell such a whisky, or is likely to increase in value?
Many thanks in advance,
Steve |

Hi Steve, the Macallan seems to get more and more popular and aged vintages like this are highly sought after, the prices they sell for have shot up in recent years, have the prices now peaked, its difficult to say.
It is a pity you haven't got the box but it should still be very desirable. You will probably see this selling in specialist whisky shops for up to £1200 but at auction or in a private sale you will be looking at half that amount, perhaps a little less as you have no box. |
