I have just found an unopened 750ml bottle of Glenlivet 12 year single malt whiskey in my dad's garage. I would ask my dad about it but he is 88years old and has alzheimers, so won't remember much about it. It is in a presentation tin Classic Golf Courses, with a picture of Muirfield on the front. It seems to be quite a few years old as the tin shows signs of age.
I am unsure what to do with it apart from drink it and I'm not a huge drinker and I'm sure I wouldn't appreciate the quality of it. I am thinking of keeping it as a memento of my dad, he did like a whiskey now and again, or maybe save it for a toast at his funeral. But I would like to know more about it age etc.
Brian it sounds like a 1980's bottling of the Glenlivet 12 year old, if the bottle and presentation tin are in reasonable condition it should be worth a few pound. Here is an example of a bottle which sold at auction this month for £80
It is a decent easy to drink Speyside malt whisky which I am sure anyone with even the slightest liking for whisky would appreciate. I am sure you would enjoy it whether you open it now or perhaps at a later date to toast your dad. Also a good momento to keep to recall your dads taste for the finer things in life. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky.
Sorry to hear of your dads condition. Your dad obviously thought of it as something special to keep it all of these years. It is a very easy drinking pleasant fruity (green apple notes) whisky, I hope you enjoy it if you do decide to open it now or in the future.
