Hello everyone,
I am looking for a helping hand with regards valuation/selling the following whisky
The Glenrothes Distillery
Cask filled in 1979
Single Cask No 13459
Bottle 351 of 492
The bottle is in a wooden display case which is in perfect condition. I am keen to find out what the best way to go about selling the bottle would be. Whether it be an auction (in which case where would be recommended), or where would be best to advertise for private sale? I have photos but I can't actually work out how to post them, apologies.
Thanks in advance. |

I believe Glenrothes have only released around 10 single cask bottlings in its history so they are quite a rare expression and the Glenrothes Anniversary Cask 1979 single cask no 13459 is sure to be amongst its rarest.
I haven't seen any of the Glenrothes 1979 Cask 13459 come to auction but I would suspect you may be looking at £500 - £1000, just my guesstimate.
Here is an example of a Glenrothes 1979 Cask 13458 which was bottled for the US market and sold for £500 at auction in July 2014

You could try put a price on it or ask for offers in a private sale, or there are a few specialist whisky auction sites such as scotchwhiskyauctions.com and mctears.co.uk Be aware there will be auction costs and taxes to pay.
Do let us know how much you get for it if you don't mind, it helps us keep track of the going rates for the next person who asks. Cheers |

| The 1979 vintages are quite delicious, I was gifted a sample a while back from two offerings, as for price, if you get two or more people interested I could see it going for good money.. As to how much well .. If it was me I would go to £500 ish give or take.. |
