I'm a total rookie, but I've started blending some things trying to get something close to what I like. I mostly like sherry bombs, so I've been adding small amounts of sherry to some whiskey, like gentleman jack and talisker. It didn't improve the talisker, but I kind of like a little sherry in the gentleman jack. Anyone else doing this sort of thing?

I have blended one or two single malts together but haven't added sherry to a whisky

As far as adding sherry to a single dram, I'm finding it difficult to add a small enough amount. I even tried putting a few drops in and pouring them out, leaving only the remainder that adhered to the glass. So, far that's my best result.

I just added about 4 drops of sherry to a double dram of Bunnahabhain Ceobanach. Really like the result. Smile

I have blended a few single malts together, usually when bottles are coming to an end but I haven't added any other spirit to my whisky. I am not familiar with what brands of sherry are good but I reckon this may make a difference if adding a drop to your single malt.

I'm using lustau Soledad reserva palo Coronado peninsula sherry. I'm a sherry noob so I just bought the most expensive one I could find locally. Still less than I normally pay for wine.

I just tried adding Graham's lbv port to the Ceobanach, and I really like that too. I'm a bit more experienced with port, and the Graham's lbv is my favorite port in the 25 USD price range. I find I generally have to pay at least that much for a halfway decent bottle of wine, unless it's French wine and then it cost a lot more for no good reason.

I've been home blending with the tail end of bottles, and with things I just feel might go good together for about a year.
I blend in little two ounce sealed bottles to marry the blend for a few weeks.
Some of my successes:
3 to 1 J/W Black with Ledaig 10
1 to 1 A'bunadh 47 with Glenfarclas 105
1 to 1 Highland Park 18 with Springbank 18
3 to 1 Laphroaig 18 with Caol Ila 12

There have been a few dogs as well, but it's all part of the grand tasting journey.

I'm definitely going to try some of those. The highland park/spring bank blend sounds really interesting.

Adding a smidgen of sherry to Corryvreckan is now on my list of favorite things to do.

Note to self: Do not add water and sherry both. The result is too sweet.

GlenGrant 16 responds quite well to generous addition of sherry.
