|
|
As another whisky year draws to a close I thought I would ask the Scotch Malt Whisky Forum members:
What were the best whisky's you tasted in 2015?
It doesn't need to be a new whisky, just new to you during the past year. So what has impressed you most?
A few that come to mind that have impressed me in 2015 are:
Ardbeg Perpetuum Committee Distillery Edition
Laphroaig An Cuan Mor
Aultmore 25 Year Old
Chivas Regal 18 Ultimate Cask Collection First Fill American Oak Finish (blend)
Royal Salute The Eternal Reserve (blend)
The Glenlivet Nadurra Peated Whisky Cask Finish
Royal Brackla 16 Year Old
Gordon & MacPhail Rare Vintage Glen Grant 1954
Compass Box The Lost Blend
I am sure I will think of a few more and will update my list.
Hopefully this thread will throw up a few suggestions of whiskies we may have over looked _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |

The most memorable drams that I have had in 2015 new to me this year listed by age and not rating included:
Tamnavulin 45
The Singleton of Glendullan 38
Mortlach 25
Tomatin 30
Gllen Ord 30
Dalwhinnie 25
Bunnahabhain 25
Mortlach 18
John Walker & Son Odyssey
Macallan Ruby
Glenmorangie Signet
Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye
These were all great drams but the top 6 to me based on my tastes were: The Singleton of Glendullan 38, Mortlach 25, Tamnavulin 45, Tomatin 30 and John Walker & Son Odyssey. I can't leave out Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

Whenever I do this I deliberately don't look back through tasting notes, the reason; if I can't remember the whisky off the top of my head then it wasn't good enough to be in my top list.
So, for me, the list features 2 single malts (from the same company no less) and 2 single grains:
anCnoc 18yo
Balblar 1983 1st release
Strathclyde 9yo Clen Denny
Cambus 50yo Sovereign
Personally, for me, I'm giving the nod to a whisky that I have enjoyed the most this year. It's not the best and in fact it's flaws were part of what made it enjoyable. It's a bottle I remember drinking with fond memories and it was almost 12 months ago as I drank it at the start of the year:
anCnoc 18yo
However, there are still 14 days left of 2015 and I've got 4 more bottles coming, so this may change! _________________ "Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whisky is barely enough." |

Strathclyde 9yo Clan Denny
Although Glendronach 21 was new to me this year and was very enjoyable.
Tyrconnell 10 Year Old Madeira Cask Finish
Special mention to the Glen Alba blended range, especially the 22 year. Under £30 and memorable.
Also (sorry) the Foursquare 9 year old rum port finish held a lot of memories for me too and again, priced keenly, I would have happily paid over £50 for it. |

Nothing spectacular this year but had some nice, decent drams. Personal best were (92-93/100):
- Glengoyne 26yo, 1987, Cask #384 (OB)
- Balblair 1986, Exclusive G&M (Gordon & MacPhail)
- Bowmore 1970, 40yo
- Glengoyne 25yo (OB)
- Blair Athol 1975, 27yo (Rare Malts)
I've tasted few better drams (OK, not better, more interesting), mostly from 1st fill sherry casks (many had scored 94-95 in my little black book) at private distillery tastings this year but they weren't bottled or for sale: |

Hi Grant. I have an unopened bottle of the Craigellachie 13. Since it's on your list, it sounds like it's a good one. What's it like? _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

Hi Grant. I have an unopened bottle of the Craigellachie 13. Since it's on your list, it sounds like it's a good one. What's it like? | Murray I bought this after reading Williams review on here, it sounded like one I would particularly like and I do, his tasting note is spot on. Williams review is here http://www.scotchmaltwhisky.co.uk/craigellachie13yearold.htm
Hope you enjoy your bottle Murray, I have ordered another for drinking over the holidays. |
