Here are my taste notes and review/ rating from today for my first experience with Dalwhinnie 25, neat.

Color: Syrupy gold

Nose: Butterscotch and honey petals with apricot stamen; a scented olfactory flower in bloom. Sweetned lime and exotic fruit come forth as a symphonic aromatic chorus. Sugary rice pudding and tapioca share the concert master role over aromas. Pungent lilacs and heather radiate a fragrant display that graces the stage. Layers of Turkish delight, cream soda and Maraschino cherries and an apiarist's (beekeepers) paradise with honey accents appear as well.

Body: Medium to full

Taste: Creamy then oily, a layer of warming spice coats the palate and then potent thick orange soft chewy candy with a hint of pepper. A sudden pleasant slick of oaky tannins tempts but yields to deeper stewed fruit tones.

Finish: Long, citrus peels hunker down and then release an Oreo cookie of spice on the outside and subtle honey sweetness on the inside. Mocha notes appear late along with subtle cloves.

Comments: The Dalwhinnie 25 at 52.1 %ABV packs a punch. The nose is like a ballerina, graceful and firm, malleable but capable of great things, The taste is bold, held up by oaky arms while the finish pulls the reins in and allows fruity and honey sweetness back aboard.

Rating: 93

***I will try my next dram with a few drops of water at a later date just to compare.

Great notes again Murray, I particularly enjoyed this one, I had it when it was released. I am surprised the Dalwhinnie 1987 25 2012 Special Release has not yet sold out. I noticed that it is £217 at TWE which is quite a bit less than they are asking for the this years Dalwhinnie 1989 25 2015 Special Release which is priced at £325.

I spotted the Dalwhinnie 25 52.1% in Alexander & James for £189, only 1 bottle left.
