Murray's Taste Notes and Review of Tomatin 30

Here are my taste notes and review/rating of my first dram of Tomatin 30 Year 46%ABV today.

Color: Wispy gold (faint)

Nose: Brazil nuts, freshly peeled tangerine and banana split notes rush in with the olfactory intensity and profoundness that 30 years in a cask allows. Toffee, caramel candy and fudge as well as vanilla bean all awaken spontaneously in a heavenly sweet burst. There is a sense of depth and maturity dancing around all the elements.

Body: Medium to Full

Taste: A smooth and creamy oaky sweetness entertains with warming cocoa, spice and cinnamon bun footprints; the essence of satisfaction on a cold Winter's day.

Finish: Long, cafe latte, frothy and sweet meshes with the "oaky" undertone which gives weight and purpose to the dram. Waves of caramelized banana complete the profile with a sweetness resurgence over time.


Comments: The Tomatin 30 has an impressive nose which hits you at the get-go and continues to build as the whisky opens. The taste advances the depth of the expression with the matured oak as a platform for the arising flavor profile. The finish is a fine perseveration of quality from nose and taste and embodies a logical conclusion to a memorable dram of whisky.

A cracking dram, difficult to get hold of as it is no longer available. Hopefully we will see some more in the future as stock matures.
