Would you taste whiskey straight from charred oak??!!

Hi guys, i am new here. Can you please help - what do you think about tasting whiskey straight from a charred oak? I recently came upon a product - wooden tumbler with charred interior. Creators claim that it is made like original oak barrels and will reveal whiskey flavors like no glass tumbler ever could. I am considering to get one and wanted to hear some other opinions.

Gimmick and pointless.

It'll work one of two ways; highly interactive, in which case anything you drink will taste of barrel char. Highly underactive (don't want those bits of charred cask in your mouth mate), in which case it'll have not effect whatsoever.


I'm guessing way 1. In which case you'll get bits of char in your mouth, you won't be able to wash your cup, nosing will just give char and the taste won't be filtered out.

When they bottle whisky they barrier filter first to get rid of the bigger lumps of sh1te from the cask char, most then go on to chill filter and dilute. A diluted and filtered whisky isn't going to get any benefits from being drunk out of a charred vessel.

Charcoal filtering, like they use in Tennessee whisky, lest the raw spirit pass through feet of hard compacted charred oak drip by drip over time.....


What this cup going to do? It's going to make your whisk smell and taste like char.

Thanks for your answers guys, i actually asked them about taste and smell of the char and if it would not feel just like burned wood. They answered me that the charr is very light so it would not overvhelm the whsikeys flavors. They claim there is no feel of the actual charr- just sweet and pleasant aromas that reveals from charred oak.
At this point i am a bit confused - really wanted to try it out because i like to experiment with different tastes.

I should clarify - I would drink it. I wouldn't buy the glass, especially for £30.
I wouldn't use high quality whisky either as they suggest.

But you've got to give it a whirl. I think a bourbon may act quite well with it. In fact some of the moonshine type things that are coming out that could do with a bit of flavour would positively benefit from this!!!
