Well names in the title! Both roughly the same price, and sounds like fantastical tasting notes. But what one to pick?! I love Lagavulin, and I love Coal Ila...

Anyone going to be purchasing either?

I've had both quite a number of times. I prefer the Laga 12yo but if I had to pick 1 this year it'd be the Caol Illa - love to try it at 17years old (oldest they have done).

However, I wont be buying either. I totally disagree with Diageo's pricing strategy and refuse to fund it.

I will probably have a bottle of each at some point, I don't like the pricing but that is what the prices are and if you want to taste them you have to pay.

The pricing is out outrageous... If its Cask Strength, Diageo & Islay = ££££

The Caol Ila 17 does seem to be priced sort of fairly. A 19 Y/O Cask Strength Port Askaig is 10£ more... Thats even crazy come to think of it, seeing as you don't know for sure what distillery its form.

I see The Whisky Exchange now has the Caol Ila 17 Year Old Unpeated in stock priced £89.95, the Lagavulin 12 2015 Special Release is still a pre-order but should be here for Christmas. Don't worry you can console yourself with a bottle of the Port Ellen 1983 32 Year Old 2015 Special Release while waiting on the Lagavulin 12 to arrive.

I have been thinking about buying a Bunnahabhain 18yr and a Caol Ila 12yr but I am tempted to replace the Bunna with the Caol Ila 17yr since reading this! Confused Decisions...

John I see that the Lagavulin 12 2015 is now available to order, and they haven't sold out of the Port Ellen yet Smile
