My 30th birthday is upon me and people have been asking what I want naturally the mind turns to a few bottles and I fancied a bottle of Hibiki 12 and Yamazaki 12,been some time since I last bought a bottle and I'm gobsmacked at the price increases I have seen on them. I knew there were whispers that prices were going up but it still managed to shock me. Are some distilleries purposefully driving up prices on age statements now?

Yep.

They're also driving up the prices of their NAS drivel. Basically, if they can get away with a price increase, then they are doing.

Japanese stuff is a different issue. The demand was not expected and happened quickly in a very short space of time, so they are really struggling with mature stock. Supply and demand now, so prices have rocketed, some stuff has stopped being exported and Nikka have even removed age statements from their single malt range.

Tesco still has the smaller bottles of Hibiki 12 for £37, which is about as good as you'll get, my local in Newcastle has loads of them. Unfortunately the Yamazaki isn't as easy to come by any more, although some lucky folks on here found some for £28 a bottle during Tesco's recent stock clearance...
