Hi guys, can anyone help me here.
Back in December 1997 I was given a bottle of 10yr old Talisker malt from the isle of Skye. A month earlier my daughter had been born and we had named her Skye, as such I held on to the boxed bottle, to open on her 18th birthday......Now that is only a week away, I am scared in case we open a bottle that could soon be collectable and as none of us are really whiskey drinkers that would be a waste........any advice would be appreciated. thanks JIM

Hi ..
Your 10 year old talisker is only worth collecting in the sense it is an older standard bottling, it is basically the same whisky as today's version just different a package, it will be worth a small profit but my advice is open and drink it like you had intended..

I don't even think you'd make a profit, not with fees etc on auctions. You can pick up a 10yo for about £30 in supermarkets at this time of year too. Talisker don't do vintages in their standard bottling and whisky doesn't age/improve in the bottle either.

You do know they do an 18yo Talisker? I know it's not sentimental as you've kept this for 18yrs, but buying an 18yo to open would be nice as it'll be distiller before she was born and as old as she is. It's also a bloody good whisky.

It would only be worth a few pound more than the Talisker 10 you would buy today but by the time you paid postage and sellers/auctions fees it wouldn't be worth selling. Open and enjoy as it is a an excellent whisky.
