I have been in to Tesco today and they have several offers on that appeal to me and my need to try as many different whiskies as possible. I ended up buying the Aberlour 12 Years Old, Talisker 10 Year Old and a Glen Grant. Using my trusty Whisky Bible, the Glen Grant scores 87 and for the princely sum of £22 on offer for a full bottle, it seemed too good to pass up.

Quote:
Colour: A nice light straw colour which is strange as there is the typical german line - FARVEN JUSTERET MED KARAMEL. I wonder how light it would be without?

Nose: Fruity - apples, pears. Nuts - Chocolatey almost.

Palate: Spicy but sweet in the background. It's light but to me it's not really fresh as described on the box.

Finish: Hazelnuts and grassy at the finish after the spice goes.

For what is a 'cheap' single malt scotch, this isn't a bad whisky at all. To put it in context with the few I've tried, it's not as smooth as some but I wouldn't describe it as harsh at all. It's not as spicy as others either but as far as the finish goes, the grassy, hazelnut notes are as distinctive to me as the Glenfiddich's pear notes.

I don't think it's just a middle of the road whisky though as it has its distinctions. It has a nice nose and a good finish. I will drink this again and I might even buy some more in time.

You cant fault the Glen Grant Majors Reserve at the price you pay for it. Look out for the Glen Grant 10 which is an outstanding dram for your money, usually found under £30
