|
|
Was walking through Doha airport today and stumbled upon a 33yro Port Ellen distillery bottling, bottled this year (from 1981 apparently) with an outturn of 210 bottles. A snip at $7,020... I haven't been able to find it anywhere online and have a picture but nowhere to host it (if anyone wants a look?). Anybody heard of it?
Interestingly, I was on my way back from the middle of nowhere in CHina and picked up one of the 2011 1978 Highland Park bottlings for under £300. Quite pleased. |

Can't say I have, especially if it's OB. I did look on Qatar Duty free site but they don't list their single malts online. IA photo would be helpful. See this Forum link for explanation how to post a photo here.

That doesn't look like an official bottling. Bottle isn't the right shape.
Did it say who it was bottled by? Well over priced too. _________________ "Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whisky is barely enough." |

I can't find any 33 year Port Ellen DB anywhere I have searched online. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

| Yup - I couldn't find any bottling notes on it at all. Just the line across the front. |

The only Port Ellen 33 Year Old I found was Gordon & MacPhail Rare Old Bottling Single Malt Scotch Whisky for $1,399.99 Out of Stock. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

This actually says "matured and bottled by The Distillers. Capitalised. As in, the name of the bottling company, rather than "the distillers". No official bottling would say "the distillers", it'd say "matured and bottled by Diageo" or some such.
It can't be bottled by the distillers as the distillery is closed. _________________ "Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whisky is barely enough." |

| Huh 😳😳😳😐😐😐... Maybe the distillers refers to the workers at port Ellen who bought a cask and bottled it privately.. 😖 |

The font and label look like a deliberate attempt to ape the official bottlings _________________ Talisker 18 - the rest are just details |
