|
|
Picking up a new bottle for Thanksgiving. I have it down to three.
1) Balvenie 12 year Single barrel 129.00 Cdn
2) Glenmorangie Nectar D'Or. 123.00 Cdn
3) Glengoyne 15 year old. 86.95 Cdn
I have not tasted either of them before. Your thoughts?

I would go for Glenmorangie Nectar D'Or, a lovely drop. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

All three are great malts.
I don't want to add additional stress to your purchasing decision but why not consider Glendronach 15 or Glenfarclas 15 as well?
My favourite would be Glendronach 15. |

| The Balvenie single barrel first fill12 is great, miles better than the doublewood. It would be my choice. |

| I'm a big fan of balvenie but I do think the 12 single barrel is a little weaker than the other expressions in the balvenie range, but it is still worth a punt, after all it is a single barrel.. The nector dor is a lovely sweet whisky, I would choose from these two personally but the glengoyne is good too 😁.. Hope that helped 😕 |

I've not had the Glengoyne so cant comment. I found the Nectar D'Or sweet and a little unintredting/uninspiring when I had it, but that's personal taste, so my vote would be for the Balvenie; solid whisky. Not the best in their line up by any means but it's done well and it's full of the usual Balvenie profile.

| I will add my vote for the Balvenie 12 year Single barrel, by far the best of this bunch for me. |

I have the Glengoyne 15 but haven't opened it yet. Reviews I've read say the 12 is better, and I loved the 12.
If those are your choices, I'd ask, are the other two $40 worth better?
But than I am biased against Glenmorangie, haven't liked any of them I've tried.
Glengoyne would be my advice, or Bowmore Tempest if you like Islay, since it's newly available and only $82 _________________ Slainte |

3 different styles of whisky, but the 2 quality whiskies here are the Balvenie and the Glenmorangie. As always it comes down to personal taste which is the best but all are worth a try. _________________ There's no bad whisky. Just good whisky and better whisky. |

My thanks for all the input. As I was holding the Balvenie 12 single barrel, I noticed this bottle. According to Whisky.com this is a limited bottling that is different from the 18 year that Glenfiddich normally releases.
Anyway, I went back and picked her up.
