Drams at pubs in USA much cheaper than In Canada

A friend of mine just messaged me from Virginia Beach, Virginia on vacation with his Mrs.
I told him he should go to a pub and have a single malt. He ordered a 3 oz. (a super double) Macallan 12 for $11. That's really reasonable. That would cost about $25. here plus tax, almost $29 in Ontario, Canada. I had a similar experience when I visited Buffalo, New York.

What would a 3 oz serving of Macallan 12 cost at a pub in Scotland?

I know I paid £4.95 for a 25ml measure of Macallan Gold in a bar recently, 3oz is just short of 90ml I believe so your friend got a bargain especially as it was the 12 year old which we would only be likely to find in a specialist whisky bar here and I would guess that it would be at least £8 for a 25ml measure. Prices do vary here considerably, like anywhere I suppose, depends on the establishment you are drinking in but you don't tend to find a big single malt selection in a spit and sawdust pub.

Hi James. Thanks for your comments. I had never heard of the expression
"spit and sawdust pub". I like it. The slang term here is "blind pig" which has changed meaning over the years but now is used for a lower-class establishment.
