|

Gordon & MacPhail have announced the latest addition to its exclusive Generations range, this time they have released a Mortlach 75 Year Old. Amazingly this extremely rare whisky was bottled at 44.4% ABV. With only 100 bottles available worldwide it carries a price tag of £20,000. _________________ There's no bad whisky. | It could be possible it was put into the barrel at a higher abv, it would be interesting to know if back then they did.. I bet the nose on this is astounding.. |

| I have to say if any whisky qualifies for a big price tag surely this must. I had better win the lottery real quick before they are sold out or I will have no chance of tasting it. |

Humid and moderate temperature (your average Scottish dunnage warehouse) causes more alcohol than water to evaporate from the cask, resulting in a decreased abv over time.
Dry and high temperature flips it and you loose more water than alcohol to evaporation, resulting in an increase abv over time. (as you find in a lot of well aged, high stored bourbons).
If this cask was stored in a metal or brick warehouse, that was heated and located near the top of the rack, then it's possible that the rate of alcohol evaporation has been reduced somewhat, leading to an acceptable abv even after 75 years.
....and puts into perspective the true value of whisky. I'd rather blow £20k on a 75 year old malt than blow it on a NAS decanter Macallan (or similar marketed trinket) _________________ "Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whisky is barely enough." |

| But do you really think this barrel was kept at the top of a warehouse that is heated in Scotland, the only people with tighter pockets than the scots are us Yorkshire folk ! This barrel was probably stored in some dark corner of a dunnage warehouse. And is just lucky the Angels weed too pissed on all the other spirits fumes to notice 🙈😁 |

Who knows.
And maybe the Angels don't like whisky high in spirit sulphur....or stuff from first fill sherry casks
...who knows.
Not got 20K burning a hole in my pocket this month so I'll have to pass anyway. _________________ "Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whisky is barely enough." |

| Another one I will have to imagine what it tastes like, I would guess the tightness of the grain of the oak barrel has a lot to do with it reaching this age at 44.4%. |

Heh, my local whisky shop is stocking this. He's usually pretty liberal with samples for me......I wonder if I could be cheeky enough
£19,750 too, so I'd save myself £250. Bargain. _________________ "Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whisky is barely enough." |

Yes and this mysterious whisky shop he keeps telling me about. Do you have to enter it via a big cupboard?
Waiting for my invite.... *whistles* |
