Last Saturday 4th July, William Grant & Sons marked the Kininvie distillery's 25th Anniversary by disgorging three casks of Kininvie single mat whisky that were filled and laid down on the distillery's very first day of production, the 4th of July, 1990.
The three casks disgorged last Saturday 4th July are destined to be bottled as the Kininvie Special Release #1 25 year old which will be available from November 2015.
Each of the three casks which have been hand-selected by William Grant & Sons sixth Master Blender, Brian Kinsman will be individually allocated to one of three markets - the UK, Taiwan and mainland Europe.
William Grants have told me that each of the three single casks will be bottled at cask strength and non chill-filtered but I do not have any other details yet such as bottle size and price.

| Hopefully it will be a full sized bottle and not a 35cl, I would imagine it wont be cheap either. |

I could be wrong but I thought it was a 50 c/l bottle a lttle bit more than 35 but not a lot a bit dear for the size of bottle

Yes, my thoughts exactly. If it's 50cl it could be pushing £300. Perhaps even more depending on how limited it is. Having got the 17yo, and batch 2 of the 23yo, the Kininvie novelty has worn off for me. I saw batch 3 for £120 and thought "no, not this time". It's good that they're trying something different yet again but I'll reserve judgement until I start seeing tasting notes and ratings. I'm sure Craig Cranmer said the 17yo and 23yo were "incredible whisky" when they were more like "mmmm, OK". But he's hardly going to say "it's pants!" I can see a large percentage of the 25yo being bought up by collectors and shoved around the auction sites for years to come. |
