Diageo have purchased the worlds largest whisky collection from Brazilian whisky enthusiast Claive Vidiz. Mr Vidiz had built up his record breaking collection of 3,384 bottles of whisky over 35 years.

Diageo will be loaning the collection to the Scotch Whisky Experience on the Royal Mile, Edinburgh next year where a specially designed vault is being created to display the collection.

While it is not known exactly what Diageo paid for the collection, it is known that the collection ranges from the most popular whiskies to some of the rarest.

Shipping the fragile cargo 6,500 miles across the Atlantic from from Sao Paulo took months of preparation and each bottle had to be individually packaged. The bottles are now currently being stored in a high security location in Scotland.

Watch for it next year at the Scotch Whisky Experience on the Royal Mile Edinburgh.

That is some size of collection, 3,384 bottles. i thought my collection was starting to get big over 40 bottles now. I guess Diageo wont be chapping on my door anytime soon. My problem is i keep opening the bottles and drinking them.

3,384 bottles of whisky over 35 years averages out at buying 8 bottles a month for 35 years which he did not open. I am sure it is a nice collection but the word obsession comes to mind.

I have the same problem Crane, i keep opening them up, lol.

I have bought a few bottles in the past with the intention of letting them increase in value but i always end up opening them, well thats what they are for.

It would be interesting to see a list of what is in Diageos newly acquired whisky collection.

Just an update on this thread.

This enormous whisky collection has now arrived at its new home and the 3384 bottles are now being unpacked, cleaned and catalogued at Edinburghs Scotch Whisky Experience and will go on display this year in the new vault.

Christine McCafferty, Diageo's Heritage Archive Manager, was a member of the team unpacking the collection at Scotch Whisky Experience today.

"We are delighted to have brought this wonderful collection safely back to Scotland and to have found a home for it at the Scotch Whisky Experience where its legacy and historic significance will be preserved,"said Ms McCafferty.

"It is particularly appropriate that the collection will be unveiled during Scotland?s Year of Homecoming and we hope many thousands of visitors will be able to enjoy viewing the collection in its atmospheric vault," she added.

The Diageo Claive Vidiz Scotch Whisky Collection, certified as the world?s largest by Guinness World Records, features 3,384 bottles of whisky built up over a period of 35 years by Brazilian businessman Claive Vidiz. The collection will form part of a new experience designed to blow away the myths and stereotypes of whisky, which will also feature a new and exciting barrel ride, plus demonstration, cocktail and exhibition areas and personalised whisky tastings.

I was just reading about this on the BBC, I see they have a specially-designed vault at the Scotch Whisky Experience to display this collection and it should be available to view from the Spring. I shall have to make a point in visiting when i am am in Edinburgh.

John,
with respect to the gentlemen, looking at his age, I feel he should have invited us to Sao Paulo to sample the bottles before Diageo put their hands on them.
