Hello all,

fairly new to whisky drinking it must be said but so far enjoying the whole experience.Glenlivet and Glenmorangie original being very pleasant, then today tried a dram of Aberlour A'Bunadh and wow big difference, full of flavour my kind of whisky I think.
Purchased from Waitrose £41.50 batch number 50.
Fair price?

Welcome to the forum, the abunadh is a fantastic dram, you paid the typical price, but every now and again it's on offer nearer the £30-£35 mark, keep an eye out...

Welcome.

The big flavoured whiskies are usually the ones you will find yourself drawn to at the start and as your palate and experience grows you'll find yourself enjoying more toned down, subtle and complex whiskies.

If you really like the big sherried side then I can recommend Glendronach 12 and 15, Glenfarclas 15 and 105. These should sit up to £45 tops and will offer you a similar taste profile whilst letting you explore more distilleries and the difference you get with aging.

Totally agree, I often think people have it the wrong way round when they suggest starting from the delicate whiskies and working up to the peat or sherry monsters later.
