Hey.
Need some info.
What is your opinion on Glenfiddich 12 and 15?
What are main differences? |

It's pretty much chalk n cheese as they say,
The 12yo is fresh and lightish, green apples, vanilla and pears, it's matured in bourbon and sherry casks, lovely and simple...
Now the 15 is a different beast, matured in bourbon and sherry casks it also has some Virgin oak in too, it's all married together in the solero vat, it has a lovely spicy flavour to it, lots of vanilla, dark fruits from the sherry, sweet but not sickly sweet, has a lovely marzipan flavour, a wee kick of ginger thrown in for good measure, you really can't afford to miss this one out on your journey, there is also the 15 distillers edition, this is stronger abv, more intense flavours, and a must try bottle, hope this helps.. |

Sorren nails it with these descriptions.
The 15yr old is one of my favorites. _________________ Mike |

| I don't need to add much to what sorren said, except to clarify that there isn't much sherry influence at all in the 12 (unlike in the 15). Also, the 15 Distillery Edition isn't like the regular 15 but at a higher strength, but a different whisky altogether - I'd say closer to the 12 in terms of flavour profile, but richer and more intense. |

The Glenfiddich Solera process, is where Glenfiddich matures their whisky in a variety of normal casks such as bourbon and sherry then they fill these casks into a large oak Solera Vat for at least another 2 months. The solera vat is never allowed to be less than half full and is constantly topped up.
As well as the Glenfiddich 15 there are now 3 Glenfiddich travel retail whiskies which are produced using the Solera Vat process, there is some info on these here http://www.scotchmaltwhisky.co.uk/glenfiddichcaskcollection.htm |

| The 12 is completely inoffensive. If I went to someone's house and that's all they had I'd happily drink it. The 15 pulls in much more flavour profiles whilst still retaining a nice smooth balance to it. The 15 DE however is a different animal. Punchy - spiciness hits you and has notes that you can find in both the 12 & 15. I recommend you try all 3. In fact I may do a side by side later this year. Price wise I think the DE is good value, especially with the higher ABV but then again the 18 is only slightly more and worth considering (especially if you like a sherried note). As a distillery I have to say they happen to be very consistent and I like that personally. You know what you're getting. And at relatively reasonable prices for their core range. |

Bought Glenfiddich 15 yo. Just tasted...awesome!
Dark fruits and vanilla...tasty. I also like very diverse palate...one of the best.
Must buy bigger bottle next time |

Glad you enjoy it, it's a very good dram, very consistent, and even better at cask strength .. |

....don't believe the 15 year old Distillery Edition is a solera matured whisky, just a mix of bourbon and sherry mature whisky at 51% and not chill filtered - totally different juice than the 15 year old Solera Vat. _________________ "Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whisky is barely enough." |

| I did say earlier that the 15 Distillery Edition is more similar to a beefed up 12 than to the 15 Solera. |
