|

Hello all; I don't know anything about whisky.
However I need to to purchase a small gift for a friend who apparently likes "single malt, peated". I tried looking on Ocado but when I typed in "single malt peated" it didn't come up with any results and asked me instead if I meant 'single cant heated'. I also tried looking for recommendations on Google but it led me to things costing in the region of £900!
I was hoping to spend around £30. Could anyone recommend something acceptable in that price range? I live in England and will preferably order it from Ocado. |

| Ardbeg 10. It's around £40 but brilliant. |

+1 on Ardbeg, pretty hard to beat.
If your budget is a strict £30 though go for Laphroaig 10 year old, £33.50 at ocado. They also do a Laphroaig Quarter Cask which is great but may be a bit intense, the 10 year is a safer bet.
Steer clear of Laphroaig Select......its not a patch on the other 2.
Laphroaig 10 will be well liked by pretty much anyone who likes peated whisky, it's widely available a decent price and a consistent whisky. If someone bought me one for a prezzie I'd be more than grateful. _________________ "Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whisky is barely enough." |

Just had a browse at Ocado, Laphroaig Quarter Cask is £32 and Laphroaig 10 year-old is £33.50. They're both great choices for peated whisky, personally I prefer the Quarter Cask but the 10 might be a 'safer' choice if your friend isn't particularly experienced.
Ardbeg 10 is a bit out of your range at £47, but an alternative to Laphroaig could be Caol Ila 12 year-old, which is £37 at the moment. |

TyFloyd, the recommendations offered so far are right on point for your gift possibilities. Personally, I always thought Laphroaig Quarter Cask was a great find and better than I ever expected so I am a bit partial to this one. However, you can't go wrong with Laphroaig 10 or several others already mentioned that are a little higher than your price point. _________________ "Always carry a large flagon of whisky in case of snakebite and furthermore always carry a small snake."

| As your friend likes peated whisky then I would say Laphroaig Quarter Cask would be an ideal gift. |

| Thank you all for your advice; you are very kind. After studying your recommendations I opted for the Laphroaig Quarter Cask as my friend has a quite adventurous palate, plus it was on sale on Ocado so I felt like I got a 'bargain'. cheers one and all! |
